The GaltaJi Temple, located 10 kilometers east of Jaipur, is considered a very holy pilgrimage with immense historical value. The temple complex consists of multiple temples, the major one being Galta Ji. The temples are situated in a tiny cleft of a mountain pass in the Aravalli highlands.
The temple complex contains many holy tanks known locally as Kunds, which pilgrims use to bathe and wash away their sins. A natural spring originates high on the slopes and flows down to fill all seven holy kunds. The Galta Kund is regarded as the holiest of all in this area, and it is especially significant since it is said to have never dried up to this day.
Notorious Monkeys of Galta Ji
Galta Ji has a large monkey population, hence the temple is also known as ‘The Monkey Temple’ or ‘Galwar Bagh’. The monkey species present in Galta Ji include the rhesus macaque and langur monkeys. The monkeys here are famed for mobbing and stealing guests of their goods as well as food. They are so known that if they spot anybody carrying food, they just steal it. It becomes necessary to carry all items in a bag and avoid eating anything in public.
Makar Sankranti and Kartik Poornima
The biggest number of visitors to Galta Ji Temple occurs during the Makar Sankranti and Kartik Poornima festivals when hundreds of devotees take a plunge in the hallowed kunds. Chants and religious hymns enhance the atmosphere. Furthermore, the temple’s location away from the tourist trail adds to its tranquility. The majority of the visitors here are locals. The sight of monkeys swimming in the kunds is also one of the most captivating spectacles for pilgrims.
Hike Up To Galta Ji Temple Jaipur
A trekking track leads to Galta Ji from the western point of Jaipur, beginning at the end of Suraj Pol Bazar Road. The hike may be done in 30 to 45 minutes. The path begins near the Bazar and proceeds east via a big pink stone archway. The views of Jaipur are perhaps the greatest from the pink stone archway path. While climbing to Galta Ji Temple, one must also pass past the Sun Temple.

The Sun Temple’s vantage point offers breathtaking sunset views. If not climbing to Galta Ji, one can ascend from the temple end through the gap, past the highest sacred tank before arriving at the Sun Temple to witness the sunset. Galway Bagh Gate and Others
The Galwar Bagh Gate is the main gate at the entrance to the Galta Ji Temple. The conspicuous gate is a large pink edifice that contains all of the temples inside the compound. Other notable constructions or temples within the complex are the Brahma Temple, the Vishnu Temple, and the Galta Kund. They are all a must-see.

Best Time To Visit Galta Ji Jaipur:
The best time to visit Galta Ji in Jaipur is, between February and March as well as between October and December. The summers of Rajasthan are extremely hot and uncomfortable and are thus not recommended.
