Fascinating Facts & Local Culture

Benaulim boasts a rich history and local traditions. The village name derives from ‘Banahalli,’ which likely means “village of the arrow,” as it is thought to be the site where the arrow that Lord Vishnu fired stuck the earth. The village is also known for the annual Three Kings Festival, a lively festival celebration.

You can see the identification with their roots through the fleet of traditional fishing boats that are visible along the shore, and from the warm and welcoming disposition of the locals, you can feel that this is a culturally immersive travel experience.

Top Things to Do: Beyond Sunbathing

Your time in Benaulim can be as fervent or as relaxed as you like. Begin with a morning dolphin-watching jaunt, an incredible experience watching the dolphins shimmer in the sunlight on the water, and you will even have a chance to jump in and swim with them. When you’re done counting all the dolphins in front of you, the sea is generally perfect for swimming. When you’re feeling a bit hungry, iconic beach shacks serve up fresh seafood, local fish, and cold beer/soft drinks at the water’s edge.

Your evening will soon lead you to the beach stalls to visit when the sun heads down, and you will have a chance to pick up some local souvenirs, or, if you prefer, just find an area back on the beach and consume local beach life and get an eyeful of one of the Goan sunsets.
