He passed away in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the age of 88. He visited the Lord Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala and attended the convocation of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, where he served as chancellor, on Monday, April 20, 2015.
He was taken to Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) later that evening after complaining of excruciating chest discomfort. There, on April 21, at around three in the morning, he passed away. As a Sanskrit-Odia scholar, he leaves behind the heritage of translating the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, and the Bhagavad Gita into his native tongue.
