How to Reach Arunachal Pradesh

Long gone are the days when traveling to Arunachal Pradesh for a vacation was considered tiresome and difficult. The state now has its own railway station, which commenced operations in 2015. The roads leading to Arunachal Pradesh are also in excellent condition, with regular bus services connecting to nearby major hubs. While the state doesn't have an airport, convenient options are nearby.

By Airways: Although Arunachal Pradesh doesn't have its airport, the nearest one to its capital, Itanagar, is Lilabari in Assam. Lilabari Airport receives flights from Guwahati and Kolkata four days a week (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). The distance between Lilabari Airport and Itanagar can be covered in just two hours by bus or taxi. Guwahati has an international airport with flights to all major cities in India.

Another option for air travel is Nahariagun Airport, located 67 km away from the city. Helicopter rides operated by Pawan Hans are also available within Arunachal Pradesh, with many routes originating from Guwahati.

By Railways: Since February 20, 2015, the first train to Naharlagun has been running from Delhi, extending the railway network to Tawang. Currently, two trains are operating on this network - the Naharlagun-Guwahati Intercity Express on a daily basis and the 22411/Naharlagun-New Delhi AC SF Express. From Naharlagun, tourists can easily find buses to reach their desired destinations within Arunachal Pradesh.

By Roadways: Arunachal Pradesh is well-connected by roads. Direct buses are available from various neighboring cities and towns such as Guwahati, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tinsukhia, and Nagaon, making it convenient to reach Arunachal Pradesh.
